FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Why can't I just ask ChatGPT or Claude to write the case for me?
You can, and we'd encourage you to try. What we believe CaseLens provides is a consistent case-generation experience, with an agentic setup designed to mitigate the issues that arise in content creation: consistency across cases, credibility of data, documentation within the case, case management, sharing features, and a better (and ever-improving) classroom experience with the resulting case. We also embed a knowledge layer of documented strategy teaching content between you and the AI, to produce cases more suited for the classroom.
Ultimately, you can always prompt your own AI to produce case materials. Only purchase student licenses if you think the cases we produce would result in a better classroom experience.
Why do you charge to produce the case (and optionally the teaching note)?
Our case-writing engine is more than a simple prompt: researching the company, extracting financial data, writing, and quality-checking a case has a real cost. The price of the first copy covers some of those costs.
Can I see a case before I pay for one?
Two ways. Your first case is free, so you can commission one on a company you'd actually teach and judge it on that. And we publish complete sample cases you can read end to end without an account — the same eleven sections, financial tables, cited sources, and concept links your students would get. They're linked from the homepage under "Sample cases".
What the samples don't show is the teaching note, which stays private to whoever created the case.
How long does a case take to generate?
About 10 minutes. The pipeline researches the company and builds the financial tables in parallel, then writes and checks the case. You'll get an email when it's ready, so there's no need to keep the page open.
What data does CaseLens use?
Publicly available information gathered by the research pipeline, plus structured financial statements from a financial-data provider where the company is covered. Sources are numbered and cited inline throughout the case, so you and your students can follow and verify any claim.
How accurate are the cases?
Cases are AI-generated, and we're upfront about that: every case carries inline citations, and a limitations section describes where the data is thin. Treat it like any secondary source and verify before relying on specifics. The quality checks improve continuously, and the feedback button (bottom-right) goes straight to us.
Can I edit the case?
Unfortunately, at this time we have not built a feature to edit the case once it is produced. If this is something you would like to see, please tell us using the Feedback button in the bottom-right corner.
What if I need to buy additional licenses?
If your class is larger than anticipated, or you use the same case over multiple terms, you can buy additional student licenses anytime from the case page ("Buy more licenses"). Added seats are charged at the same per-student rate, include the annotation feature automatically if you've enabled it, and appear in the case page's purchase history.
How do students access a case?
Once you license a case for your class, its URL becomes permanent. Put it in your syllabus or LMS and share it. Students don't need accounts.
How are student notes stored?
Student highlighting and notes (in testing) are saved as they're made, but they're tied to the browser on the device where they were written, because there are no student accounts. Clearing cookies or switching devices starts fresh, which is why the notes panel has a one-click Export to Markdown; we encourage students to export regularly.
What happens if a case fails to generate?
If a paid generation fails permanently, we refund the payment automatically and email you. You can also retry failed cases.
Do you cover subjects beyond strategy?
Not yet. CaseLens currently ships with a strategy curriculum. Marketing, operations, and other packs are planned, built with the professors who'll use them. If you teach a different subject, register your interest on the homepage.
How can I make suggestions or feature requests?
We would really appreciate any feedback you have. To send us your thoughts, please use the Feedback button in the bottom-right corner anytime.
